Skyhigh Security is hiring a Senior Toolchain Engineer to join our Engineering Excellence organization, reporting to the Senior Manager of Engineering Environments and Tooling. In this key technical role, you will be a central driver in the design, development, and maintenance of the engineering toolchains and automated delivery pipelines that empower our engineering organization to deliver high-quality software at scale.
Rather than just following scripts, you will take ownership of toolchain components and automation features, contributing directly to design discussions and ensuring that engineering best practices for software delivery are consistently followed. Your impact will be measured by your ability to resolve bottlenecks in the deployment process and contribute to high-quality, maintainable automation solutions that align with our technical standards.
You must have solid technical expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and CI/CD to work effectively within the Engineering Excellence team. You’ll build strong collaborative relationships with Engineering teams, Product Management, and Operations to ensure that toolchain components—such as runners and build agents—are compatible with underlying security policies and infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
-
Develop the "Paved Road": Design, code, and refactor complex automation scripts and CI/CD pipelines to achieve well-engineered, automated results.
-
Enable Self-Service: Contribute to the development of self-service templates that allow engineering teams to deploy services without requiring manual intervention from Operations.
-
Infrastructure & Tooling Design: Undertake the complete design of moderately complex automation applications or infrastructure components, specifying interfaces between engineering tools and target environments.
-
System Integration & Build: Define the modules and dependencies needed for automated integration builds; produce test specifications for pipelines and diagnose faults in the build process.
-
Maintain Platform Integrity: Configure and maintain CI/CD tools, identifying and resolving issues related to developer tool usage while maintaining clear documentation for internal engineering tools.
-
Requirements & Quality Management: Elicit and document detailed requirements for internal tools and review toolchain components to ensure they meet defined quality and security gates.
-
Operational Alignment: Work closely with Operations to ensure toolchain compatibility with underlying OS and networking security policies.
-
Collaborative Review: Participate in reviews of automation and architectural work with peers to ensure high-quality outcomes across the platform.
-
Technology Monitoring: Support the monitoring of the external environment and assessment of emerging DevOps and cloud technologies.
Requirements:
-
6+ years of experience in DevOps/SRE/Platform Engineering
-
Proven Technical Delivery: Demonstrable experience in technical delivery with a proven record in undertaking end-to-end automation, testing, and infrastructure design.
-
Automation Expertise: A strong grasp of automation design principles and solid expertise in CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code.
-
Collaborative Mindset: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively within and across diverse teams.
-
Initiative & Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple varied tasks with enthusiasm and adapt to changing and evolving priorities.
-
Methodical Execution: Must have the ability to work methodically in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment with a self-motivated drive for results.
-
Commitment to Standards: Ability to follow agreed standards and security measures to achieve reliable and scalable engineering results.
Tooling Requirements:
-
CI/CD Orchestration: Deep expertise in Jenkins and GitHub Actions for designing scalable, automated pipelines.
-
Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in Groovy for Jenkins pipeline-as-code and advanced automation scripting.
-
Modern Deployment & GitOps: Hands-on experience with ArgoCD for Kubernetes-native deployments and Harness for continuous delivery abstraction.
-
Version Control: Expert-level knowledge of GitHub administration, branching strategies, and repository management.
-
Cloud-native technologies and multi-platform build environments.
-
Proven ability to manage toolchains and build agents across Windows, Mac, and Linux environments.
If you’re passionate about building the foundational systems that empower hundreds of engineers and modernizing how cloud security software is delivered, we’d love to hear from you.
